Blonde ambition was in full effect on tonight&39;s episode of &39;American Idol,&39; as Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood returned to the stage that launched her.

Alaina is essentially an Underwood mini-me and we mean that as a compliment: She&8217;s adorable, she&8217;s blond and she sings pop-country crossover in the same vein as Underwood. She also has the most adorable Southern accent.

So when the ladies teamed up to blast through &8216;Before He Cheats,&8217; it was also symbolic. Alaina is thisclose to being a literal Underwood successor as an &8216;Idol&8217; winner. If that does indeed happen, Alaina should thank Underwood, since she chose Pam Tillis&8217; &8216;Maybe It Was Memphis&8217; for Alaina&8217;s performance last night and that was the one song that judges believed put the teen over the top and gave her a decided edge over Scotty McCreery.

Tonight, Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina will compete for the final time as they attempt to win Season 10 of &39;American Idol,&39; and among their song.

USA Today reports that each performer will sing three songs. One will be the artist&8217;s debut original song, one will be their favorite song they performed during the season, and one will be the hand-picked track selected by the celebrity guest.

McCreery, the 17-year-old aspiring country singer from North Carolina, will perform Strait&8217;s yet-to-be-revealed song choice, as well as an original called &8216;Love You This Big,&8217; as reported by Taste of Country.

Alania, the 16-year-old from Georgia, will perform an original called &8216;Like My Mother Does,&8217; as well as whatever Season 4 &8216;Idol&8217; champ Underwood chooses for her.

Josh Turner Surprises Scotty McCreery During Hometown Concert

An emotional day became unforgettable for Scotty McCreery on Saturday, May 14. The 17 year old kept his cool while fans screamed, cried and even proposed.

McCreery had just begun his &8220;theme song&8221; when Turner strutted out and picked up the next verse. &8220;Oh my goodness!&8221; McCreery shouted while waving off his band. It was the only time all afternoon he struggled to find the perfect thing to say.

The high school junior showed incredible stage presence for someone who&8217;s experience is limited at best. He was charismatic and funny, worked both sides of the audience, and even remembered to wave to the special fans in the first few rows. He hammed it up a little with Josh Turner, but never came off cornier than one would want. Amongst the songs he recreated for his fans was &8216;Gone,&8217; &8216;Letters From Home,&8217; and &8216;The River,&8217; all tracks that were essential to his success thus far in the competition.

Hours earlier, during the parade leading up to the concert at Lake Benson park, fans watched as their native son buried his head in his hands and came up with rosy cheeks and watery eyes. Organizers expected 30,000 people despite the threat of storms. Fortunately, the only thing that got wet before McCreery finished was his sleeves, as he dabbed his teary eyes. Expect that scene to make the cut during this Wednesday&8217;s episode of &8216;American Idol.&8221;

American Idol results: James Durbin eliminated Show Tracker

A recap of the “American Idol” results show in which James Durbin was eliminated and Lauren Alaina, Haley Reinhart and Scotty McCreery made the top 3.

Ryan Seacrest said — America picked the top three contestants on "American Idol" this season. Sadly, James Durbin wasnt among them. The good news? Both Haley Reinhart and Lauren Alaina did make it through. They, along with Season 10&39;s brow-waggling country boy, Scotty McCreery, will be sent back to their respective hometowns to take a razzle-dazzle victory lap before returning to compete for the top spot.James&39; ouster was unexpected (he said after learning his unfortunate fate that he&39;d had a strange feeling that his number might be up), but looking back, there was a strange moment of foreshadowing early in the show.After James and Scotty sang a seriously underwhelming duet of "Start a Band" (the bored faces of the children gathered on the lip of the stage said it all), they joined Ryan on the couch as he rattled off the cities where auditions for next season will be held this summer.&0160;James appeared to be wiping away a tear. "You&39;re in tears already. What&39;s happening to you?" Ryan asked. Apparently, James&39; wife had bonked him in the eye with her nose when he went in for a kiss. (Do you think James talking about his wife and child all the time hurt or helped him with voters? Discuss!)Anyhow, the real waterworks didn&39;t start for James until later.
